StarTech Hard Drive Eraser

$456.31

StarTech’s latest contribution to the world of data deletion is a hard drive eraser capable of wiping up to 4 SATA drives simultaneously. Like a previous generation StarTech “cleaner” we saw here, this eraser is a standalone unit that requires no host computer to get the job done. In a way that would make The Wolf proud, I hope.

The StarTech hard drive sanitizer has 9 modes of erasure, such as Quick and Secure Erase, Single Pass Overwrite, and Multi-pass Overwrite (meets DoD 5220.22-M standards). Its LCD screen keeps you apprised of progress, as well as gives prompts to print logs so you know wipes were successful.

Unfortunately, it’s no cheaper than any of StarTech’s other hard drive erasers, and I bet it’s way less fun to use than The Sledgehammer manual hard drive crusher. Which isn’t even a real sledgehammer, but makes me think would be another more fun manual hard drive crusher to use. And, hmmmm, I just so happen to have a suitcase filled with 20 years of old laptops in my condo that I’ve so far been too lazy to do anything about.
